    ITA International (ITA) is a provider of integrated support services to include analysis, planning, training, acquisition management, cyber/intelligence, engineering, logistics, and maritime support services to government, non-governmental organizations and commercial customers worldwide.       

     

    ITA is currently recruiting for a Geotechnical Engineer for our Hampton Roads or Great Lakes location.  This position is contingent upon contract award. 

    Responsibilities

    The incumbent provides independent, timely and professional specialized geotechnical engineering support, services and consultation for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of facilities for the Navy, Marine Corps, and other Supported Commands, including minor works projects, specific projects, special projects, military construction (MILCON), demolition, maintenance, space utilization and facilities development. The incumbent participates in conferences with project stakeholders and collaborates with other engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure system coordination and integration with specific project requirements.
    The incumbent is responsible for coordinating all activities in the specialized area of geotechnical and pavements engineering, in accordance with related UFC Criteria.
    The incumbent supports the design of In-House projects and Request for Proposal (RFPs) as a team member for complex projects. Reviews designs (i.e., specs, drawings, and costs) and RFPs prepared by consultant Architects-Engineers (AEs). The incumbent is knowledgeable in the development of final working drawings utilizing current AutoCAD technology. Monitors construction, ensuring the geotechnical aspects of the project are in accordance with the contract plans and specifications. Reviews contractor submittals of shop drawings, samples of materials and other design-related items. Confers with the construction contractor and designer (if A/E work) to resolve problems or latent conditions that may arise after construction. Makes recommendations for corrective/preventative measures, as appropriate. Ensures that changes in costs, quantity, scope, schedules, design, or any other terms and conditions of the contract are coordinated or approved, as appropriate.
    Due to the varied design and construction techniques, geotechnical criteria, seismic activity, climatic conditions, coordination and code requirements design techniques, cost estimating and communications are very complex.
    Analyzes data and uses geotechnical experience to determine and predict specially developed foundation shear strength and settlement potential for various materials encountered. Determines testing parameters for soil conditions to design structural foundations.
    Initiates field trips to project sites to evaluate scoping, design, and construction. Inspects existing conditions of soils and foundations to ascertain possible problems and recommend corrective measures. Interfaces with customer and other interested parties providing consultation and gathering pertinent information required to complete project scoping, designs and failure analysis and remedial measures.
    The incumbent must have the ability to make technical decisions and recommendations for requirements due to the dynamic nature of the position. Mastery of advanced concepts, principles and practices in geotechnical engineering that enables incumbent to serve as an expert in the complex areas of soil mechanics and pavement design.
    The incumbent is capable of applying new developments and experienced judgment to solve novel and obscure geotechnical engineering problems.
     
     

    Qualifications

    Registration as a Professional Engineer in geotechnical or civil/structural with emphasis in geotechnical engineering is highly desirable.
    A minimum of 5 years of professional mechanical engineering code compliant facilities design experience for new construction, including renovation design experience, is required.
    Completion of a course of studies accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineers and Technology (ABET) for a Civil/Structural with emphasis in geotechnical engineering program from a college or university earning a bachelor’s or master’s degree, supplemented by a considerable amount of hands-on facilities geotechnical design experience, is required.
    Knowledge and experience with Autodesk software, Microsoft Office products, mechanical engineering design and analysis software and other applicable DoD computer systems and software used by the Command.
    Ability to produce results of analysis in writing and consolidate findings of others and evaluate recommendations and facts.
    Ability to make oral presentations of proposed designs and results of studies.
    Knowledge of budgeting, planning and project management techniques, including the ability to coordinate the work of others and lead teams.
    Knowledge of and full compliance with Safety Policy and Guidance and use of personal protective equipment.
